Mcdonalds

McDonald's.com

the fast food giant is more well known globally than any other brand, and the website reflects this well.they have special websites (run by a third party) that reflect Macdonald's involvement in the country. McDonald's American site has podcasts which seems to focus on the business end of the McDonald s world. McDonald s also seems to take pride in it's global universality as the American campaign and a few others show the word's "h'm lovin it" the companies slogan in various world languages, in america these graphics often are integrated into pictures of people doing physical activities, perhaps to show balance, since many Americans are overweight. Worldwide the sites are generally what youd expect, the Portugal website (found through the portal) boasts the latest deals and the monopoly game, apparently known worldwide. Egypt boasts it's menu selection by saying 90% of it's ingredients are produced locally. I couldn't tell , but either Ireland's mcdonalds are located in huge buildings, or they are huge buldings! furthermore the dhamrock, green milkshake is a unique item for Ireland. Interestingly enough Ronald Mcdonald is still pretty well known in Jordan.

REEBOK

www.reebok.com

This very large sports apperal company had a web site that was extremely easy to navigate. It asked you right off the bat which country you were viewing this page from. Under North America you could chose Mexico, United States, Canada. Many other countries were displayed each with its own language and sometimes different pictures of local athletes displayed. Interesting to see how they cater to their global audience by creating different sections of the web site in order to expand their marketing base. I guess this is appropriate when they are official sponsors of a lot of world sports.

Hugo Boss

Well this was very interesting visiting this site. When I went to the Hugo Boss site, www.hugoboss.com I searched through all of their products. Mens bodywear, glasses, watches, you name and I searched it. In addition, I did the same search for female products. I did not find any other race besides white/caucasian, that goes for both males and females. All the models seemed to be in their low to mid-twenties, I would classify them targeting the mid to upperclass socitey. Pretty interesting to actually see it, I usually don't look into ads like that, but when you do it is surprising what you see.

Chinese KFC ad

Found Here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSwSgMGnlxs

interesting ad, having watched similar ads from Pepsi and an ad for protected sex in china these guys are never alone. there are always at least two people present in these ads, Definitley can tell their trying to sell some sort of KFC food, they're all in the office, which accentuats the often acclaimed Chinese office work and work ethic. once again at the end, they're all in a big group admiring the man for his luncheon choice.

International commercial!

Well, I sure did enjoy this weeks lessons. Looking up some international ads has definately been very much enjoyable. The ad I found on you tube was absolutely hilarious. I loved it and it definately would be among most people's favorites as well, I believe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwYeC0GCGy4 I belive this ad is for underwear. It says at the top of the ad, "The wrong underwear can be a real problem." When you play the video it shows a guy come dancing into a room with a lady waiting on the bed. He starts to undress, at one point the camera zooms in on a cat near the guy. The guy finally gets to his underwear and covering his crotch is underwear that has a mouses face on it. Next thing you know all you hear is a cat getting angry and hissing and sounds of it scratching. Hilarious commercial, but unfortunately I could not figure out where this was from, but it was uner the international commercials.

Independent Living USA

http://www.ilusa.com/news.html

Has a variety of stories concerning people with all kinds of disabilities, two latest stories come out of the Bronx and them making their buildings more accessible by adding elevators, it also had an interesting story about the fact that southerners with disabilities are worse off health-wise than any other Americans with disabilities. definitely another way for people with disabilities to feel more accepted and connect with each other.

Minority web page

My best friend happens to be Jewish, he is very proud of his ethnic background. I decided I would look at a site he had mentioned to me. It is www.haaretz.com He visits this site quite often. It tells you anything and everything you need to know, want to know and what is happening in the Jewish world. In addition to that information, it includes an abundance load of information about Israel, from the local news to sports and travel. Overall, it was a very interesting site.

The Bay Window

www.baywindows.com

Bay Window is the largest newspaper in the New England area for the gay, lesbian bisexual transgender community of the area. I figured this web site would be a good site to show a minority group's feelings and what kind of things are making headlines in the GLBT community as oppose to our own. Its interesting to see some of the stories that become a big deal in this paper would not nearly be a small deal in any other larger local papers such as The Herald. I have seen this paper available on campus at school alongside the Salem State Log for those interested in seeing what kind of things are being argued and discussed within the GLBT New England community.
